How We Came To Be :
Yesterday’s Child was born out of a labor of love, a love of fine classic rock music, and, well, Labor Day itself. Let us tell you a short story about our beginnings…
Way way back when we were younger. So much younger than today. Talking ’bout yesterday, folks.. Children of yesterday to be sure. Music on the radio and in the airwaves was quite exciting indeed. Songs were psychedelic and rich with the sounds of what later would be called –classic rock. Then, it was so new; virginal and nt yet poisoned by ravages of time. There were so many wonderful sounds to listen to: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, Chuck Berry, Frank Zappa, Cream, CSN, Buffalo Springfield, Yes, The Doors, Jethro Tull, Santana…to name a few of our favorites.
Each of us, in our own time and our own way, embraced and absorbed the best of these musical vibes; they became the very fabric of our being; what makes our collective and separate hearts tick, and is what gets our collective and separate rocks off. Floating on the inspirations of this wonderful music, a few of us have even traveled beyond the proverbial moon — and lived to tell the tale.
Being drawn by this most excellent music to the instruments of choice, the masters of classic rock became our mentors. They helped us to define and enjoy the world we grew up in and led us gleefully to… um, experimented in our various experimentations. Fast-forward a few years to the summer of 2001. A gathering over Labor Day at the home of band founder, Andy Carellos, saw several groups get together to play some musics. At the end of it all there were still a few cats who wanted to get in on the action and have a jam session. This was the embryonic incarnation of what would become Yesterday’s Child. We had a great time showing off our chops and playing some of our favorite tunes from when we were growing up.
ELEVEN YEARS later, after several personnel changes, and many many gigs and venues under our belts, Yesterday’s Child has morphed to encompass the true essence of the best songs in our lives. The best classic rock and roll music is an incontrovertable part of our very fabric. And it is our uniquely wonderful pleasure to bring life to the songs we loved as kids and still love as….older kids. Never let the Child in you grow up. Play like you mean it and you will always remain Yesterday’s Child!!
Yesterday’s Child is L.A.’s Tribute to the Masters of Classic Rock, awarded Best Cover Band by both All Access Magazine and Rock City News.
“YC” brings the magic of classic rock to audiences around Southern California, recreating music originally produced between 1965 and 1975, an era they like to call “The Golden Decade”. Setlists include songs by Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd, as well as one-hit wonders like The Knickerbockers and The Shocking Blue. The band also regularly performs the music of the legendary CREAM in a special tribute presentation.
YC’s “Rockshow” is a step back to an era when rock music was changing the world. The music and lyrics reflect those times and the band looks forward to performing this music for a new generation…and for those who remember.
